What this page is for
The verified monitor distinguishes observed, estimated and forecast values and links those broad activity levels to the honest GreenHalos horizon model. It shows the exact source time, value state, freshness and NOAA attribution; invalid or expired values are withheld rather than replaced by a decorative number.
What Kp cannot say
Kp is a planetary three-hour index. It is not an exact local visibility probability, a cloud forecast or a guarantee that aurora will be overhead. GreenHalos combines Kp-driven activity categories with separate darkness, cloud, moonlight, freshness and confidence factors.
Operational source
NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center is the operational source for GreenHalos Kp observations and forecasts. The browser reads only validated first-party static data; it does not call NOAA directly during an ordinary pageview.
