Forecast limitations

Aurora and space-weather forecasts are probabilistic and can change rapidly. The live auroral layer is a GreenHalos visualisation based on NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center data. Longer-range panels describe geomagnetic activity potential and do not predict exact local visibility.

Cloud, daylight, moonlight, terrain, local light pollution, source outages and model uncertainty can affect what you see. GreenHalos does not guarantee visibility, uninterrupted data or continuing model availability.

Not an official warning service

Do not use GreenHalos for aviation, marine navigation, power-grid operations, satellite operations, emergency response or any other safety-critical decision. Use official authorities and qualified operational services.

Sources and browser state

GreenHalos identifies data sources and timestamps. Providers can correct, replace or withdraw data.

GreenHalos can store language, hemisphere, layer, reduced-data, reduced-motion and catalogue-location identifiers in this browser under greenhalos.preferences.v1. A manually selected catalogue place can also appear as rounded coordinates in the page URL. Precise browser geolocation is not written to the preference record or URL.

Acceptable use

Use the service lawfully and preserve source attribution.

• Do not attack, overload or bypass controls.
• Do not impersonate GreenHalos or an official authority.
• Do not misrepresent GreenHalos visualisations as official government products.
• Do not scrape or redistribute data contrary to source terms.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, GreenHalos is provided as is and as available, without warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, uninterrupted availability or fitness for a particular purpose. Nothing excludes mandatory rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.
