Solar-wind speed and Bz provide near-Earth context, but no isolated threshold guarantees geomagnetic activity or visible aurora.

Measurements and quality

NOAA SWPC real-time solar-wind products identify the active upstream spacecraft and data quality. GreenHalos preserves the source observation time and labels missing, partial or stale values rather than smoothing gaps into a continuous claim.

How to interpret Bz

A sustained southward Bz can favour coupling between the solar wind and Earth's magnetosphere, but magnitude, duration, speed, field strength and prior conditions all matter. GreenHalos does not publish a rule that one Bz reading predicts aurora.

Static-first delivery

Scheduled backend ingestion retrieves allowlisted NOAA products, validates and publishes compact first-party bundles. An ordinary visitor never creates a new NOAA request, database query or dynamic image transformation.
